(London, December 14, 2007) -- Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL) has signed a contract to supply, install and commission a dual-channel, Series 300 Mode S Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) system for RAK International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
His Excellency Engineer Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), signed the contract with RSL representatives at a formal ceremony held at Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) International Airport on 5th December 2007.
RAK International Airport is home base of RAK Airways, the fourth national airline of the UAE, recently established to capture a share of the lucrative Gulf air transport market. To meet the expected upsurge in traffic, Ras Al Khaimah DCA is undertaking a major development of the airport and, in particular, its air traffic management facilities to bring it up to modern, international standards. RSL's state of the art Mode S MSSR system will be a key component of this upgrade and will provide data not only for the Airport but also for other users in the UAE.
"The RAK contract underpins our international standing as the best radar provider, as reflected in the Air Traffic Management 2007 global survey, and hopefully strengthens our position in the region for additional business that we will be pursuing over the next 12 months," said Richard Claydon, RSL Director of Air Traffic Management Systems.
