UIA Launches Fleet Expansion and Renewal Program

Ukraine International Airlines signs agreement for delivery of four new 737-800 aircraft, the first step in the Airline's long term programme of fleet renewal and expansion

(Kyiv, Ukraine, March 24, 2008) -- UIA announced today the plans to upgrade its passenger aircraft fleet with up to 30 new aircraft over the next 6-7 years. The initial order is for four new Boeing 737-800 aircraft scheduled for delivery next year (two) to be followed by two more in early 2010.

The new aircraft (leased from ACG) will be the very latest in aircraft and engine technology available in the world today and will greatly enhance UIA's leadership position on the Ukrainian aviation market. The new generation 800s are equipped with the latest CFM (56-7B26) engines that feature a number of technical improvements ranging from lower fuel burn to increased reliability making the aircraft more efficient, environmentally friendly and easier to maintain. The aircrafts' improved technical specifications and lower maintenance requirement increase range and utilization and make it possible to expand the number of direct routes available to Ukrainian passengers. The airline intends to use the new aircraft on high density routes including charter, popular leisure and high load scheduled destinations allowing for more efficient fleet utilization.

"UIA is already one of the most cost efficient airlines in Europe. The addition of these new generation aircraft to our fleet demonstrates our commitment to maintaining this position and to providing our passengers with a more effective and more enjoyable flying experience. This initial order represents the start of the roll-out of our fleet renewal and expansion strategy," said UIA President Yuri Miroshnikov. "In the near future we plan to operate the newest and most technologically advanced fleet of aircraft in the region. We are currently in negotiation with both Airbus and Boeing for a purchase order of up to 30 new aircraft for delivery in the coming years."
