SAIC Awarded $55 M Contract by US Army Corps of Engineers
Company to Design, Engineer and Construct an Advanced Metal Finishing Facility and a Ground Support Equipment Facility at Robins Air Force Base
(San Diego and McLean, Va., July 17, 2008) -- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers -- Savannah, Ga., District to design, engineer and construct an Advanced Metal Finishing Facility (AMFF) and a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) facility at Robins Air Force Base (AFB), Ga. The award has a 39-month period of performance and a contract value of more than $55 million. Work will be performed by SAIC's design-build subsidiary, The Benham Companies LLC, and is scheduled for completion in 2011.
The contract includes the architectural design, engineering and construction of two facilities -- the AMFF, which will be approximately 93,000 sq. ft., and the GSE facility, which will be approximately 29,000 sq. ft. These facilities will support finishing processes for several parts of the F-15, C-130, C-17 and C-5 aircrafts.
The project includes all elements of building design and will incorporate information systems, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, DoD Force Protection/antiterrorism measures, workstation layout, and fire protection and alarm systems.
"We look forward to building a state-of-the-art metal plating facility that will facilitate a flexible and modular plating process and support the emerging needs of the military aviation industry for many years to come," said J.T. Grumski, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.
