Simulators to be Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force
(Arlington, Texas, July 24, 2008) -- L-3 Link Simulation and Training (L-3 Link) announced today it received a contract from the Boeing Company as a result of a contract award from the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division for the first F/A-18F simulators to be delivered to an international military. The contract award calls for L-3 Link to build two F/A-18F Tactical Operational Flight Trainers (TOFTs) for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), which are scheduled for separate deliveries to RAAF Base Amberley in 2010. Each F/A-18F TOFT will consist of independent cockpits and visual display systems for both the pilot and weapons sensor officer.
"Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18F aircrews will be able to undergo a full spectrum of advanced tactical training on these modern technology Super Hornet simulators," said John McNellis, L-3 Link Simulation and Training president. "As a result of our global investment in F/A-18 simulator hardware and software commonality, we will be able to deliver the Royal Australian Air Force a low-risk solution that meets their unique training requirements."
Each trainer will be integrated with L-3 Link's 360˚ SimuSphere(r) visual display, SimuView(tm) image generator and Boeing's simulated Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System to provide both pilots and weapons sensor officers with a completely immersive training environment.
